Public / Private aims to celebrate the variety of design born out of public and private experiences within cities. The private facet of the exhibit introduces a variety of maps and design media created to expose personal experiences that define the individual’s understanding and perception of a city. Visitors
are invited to map their own mental landmarks on a wall size Manhattan island on slips of paper. The
exhibit’s visual impact will build with each participating visitor as small slips of paper cover the map.
The public portion is displayed on the outside of the structure featuring a collection of trending map
designs that simplify city geography down to celebrated landmarks that have begun to characterize
each city’s socially-accepted identity.
The goal of the exhibit it to create a sense of interconnectedness by exposing the nuances of personal
experiences that shape our perceptions of cities, neighborhoods, landmarks and structures that hold
profound importance in our hearts.
